What will you be financing?

This campaign aims to finance a photovoltaic self-consumption system for the Portuguese Province of the Institute of the Sisters of Saint Dorothy, a long‑standing educational and social institution in Portugal.

The installation and operation of the solar panels will be carried out by the campaign promoter: Solcor Portugal, specialising in solar installations.

The Portuguese Province of the Institute of the Sisters of Saint Dorothy is a religious institution founded in 1940. Part of the Dorothean Sisters’ Catholic congregation, it focuses on education and social development, especially for young people and vulnerable groups. The organization manages several schools and educational centres, as well as community and social initiatives aligned with human dignity and ethical values. Its activities extend across Portugal through coordinated programs and institutional structures.

The funds raised through this campaign are intended to finance the installation of a 103,32 kWp solar photovoltaic system for self-consumption, composed of 168 panels, two inverters, and a support structure. This project will enable approximately 130 MWh of clean energy production annually and 43% energy self-sufficiency. This guarantees a reduction of 50% in electricity costs.

This is Solcor's twenty-eight campaign. 18 of the 27 previous campaigns financed solar energy for social organizations: Social Solar Solcor, Social Solar Solcor II, Social Solar Solcor III, Social Solar Solcor IV, Social Solar Solcor V, Social Solar Solcor VI, Social Solar Solcor VII, Social Solar Solcor VIII, Social Solar Solcor IX, Social Solar Solcor X, Social Solar Solcor XI, Social Solar Solcor XII, Social Solar Solcor XIII, Social Solar Solcor XIV, Social Solar Solcor XV, Social Solar Solcor XVI, Social Solar Solcor XVII, and Social Solar Solcor XVIII.

What is the impact?

Direct

Contribution to the decarbonisation of Portugal avoiding CO2 emissions: With a total production of clean energy of over 130.6 MWh per year, the solar plant will avoid the emission of about 5.75 tonnes of CO2 per year. This is equivalent to the CO2 absorption of 261 trees.

Cost reduction for the end customer: decentralized energy production through renewable sources, close to the place of consumption, helps to avoid distribution costs, this being the most competitive option. In addition, the company's lower dependence on the national grid makes it less vulnerable to price fluctuations and tax charges.

Indirect

Improvement of the organization's core services: the cost reduction in electricity expenses enables the association to improve their services for the community.
