Powering low carbon commuting in urban environments.

Description

Kleta is a bicycle and e-bike company that champions the idea that cycling can significantly lower our carbon footprint and transform lives by fostering a healthier, more enjoyable commuting alternative.

Kleta is a pioneer in the eBike subscription and sales sector in Spain contributing to the transition from carbon-intensive transport towards electric bikes in the commuting setting. With over 2400 subscribers, Kleta is dedicated to expanding its impact by promoting eco-friendly transportation.

This is the promoter's second campaign, after raising €150.000 in Kleta, to fund the build-out of Kleta's new store footprint model in its first and second locations in Barcelona.

The capital raised through this campaign will contribute to fund the purchase of a new batch of Kleta's electric bikes, which are highly demanded by customers. In both categories: subscription and sales.

This will empower Kleta to further accelerate the transition from car reliance to bicycle commuting, catering to the precise needs of potential eBike commuters.

The Impact

Direct

  • Promotion of accessible and sustainable urban mobility with lower environmental impact: in 2024, up to August, Kleta has had in average over 1646 monthly people cycling their bikes through Spanish cities. Their subscription business model enables people to experience commuting with a bike and consider making it their main transport mode. They also offer e-bikes and many accessories such as children’s seats or trailers that can make the possibility of cycling through the city a more realist option even for families. Through Kleta’s own store locations they offer users easy repairs and maintenance for the bikes.
  • Decarbonization of transport and cities: The use of electric bikes for daily commuting contributes to decarbonizing cities and improving air-quality since they are non-polluting methods of transportation. The use of Kleta bikes in 2024, up to August, avoided 561 tonnes of CO2, in comparison to emissions from cars, had they been used for the average kilometres travelled by Kleta bikes. Using the forecast until the end of 2024, Kleta estimates that 928 tonnes of CO2 will be avoided.
Since 70% of Kleta users affirm, they have switched to a bike from carbon heavy transportation, Kleta has avoided 392,7 tonnes of CO2 emissions, by replacing bikes with cars, which is the equivalent of the absorption of over 17 thousand trees yearly.
Also, all bikes in circulation saved in average around 8.400 m2 of space in traffic reduction up to August 2024 – that is the equivalent space that over 8 Olympic-sized swimming pools take up.

Indirect

  • Promotion of healthy lifestyles and well-being: increased cycling habits in cities contribute to air quality and road safety, when it replaces individual motorized transport, and to healthier lifestyles from exercise.
  • Promotion of sustainable cities’ infrastructure: the financing of this project contributes to more people cycling, which incentivizes public policy towards building resilient infrastructure for sustainable transport systems.

Financial viability

Kleta enjoys a predictable, high-margin subscription business that generates reliable cash flows. This funding initiative is designed to cover the up-front costs of setting up stores that, on their own, are each expected to generate over 500K of revenue annually at 15% net profit margins.

Between its business model and its investor group, Kleta is well-positioned to generate sustainable attractive returns to both its debt and equity over the long term.

In addition, Kleta counts on the support of investors including Fondo Bolsa Social (Madrid based impact VC), and Marc Gasol (Former professional basketball player, LA Lakers).
