Vencer Autismo is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to eradicate the stigma associated with autism. It was founded in 2010 by Joe Santos and Susana Silva, the parents of Caui, an incredible young woman who has autism and has inspired them forever.
Vencer Autismo empowers the community in general in understanding and accepting the characteristics of autism, through a base model which includes workshop, masterclasses and mentoring, which promote the sharing of specific techniques and strategies for those who contact directly and indirectly with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The company thus contributes to maximizing the development potential of each child.
The project was launched in 2017 in the 17 municipalities of the metropolitan area of Porto, with the aim of holding at least one lecture, of organizing a two-day workshop, and mentoring for a period of three years to all its inhabitants. With over 55.000 people impacted in Portugal, Vencer Autismo is now planning to expand to Brazil.
The funds raised through this campaign will be used to promote and reproduce the NGO’s model in Brazil, as well as to update the training contents to the local reality. If the model is proven to be sustainable in Brazil, Vencer Autismo will replicate it in other countries, extending its impact to more geographies.
Direct:
Promoting the improvement of the quality of life of children who have autism and their carers: over 3,000 parents and professionals who have an impact on the lives of over 400 children and young people with autism have already received training. Questioned 6 months after the workshops, 80% of the participants acknowledge that the children they help have responded well to the training.
Indirect:
Promoting the inclusion of people with autism through the comprehension and the reduction of negative stigma: to date, over 55.000 people have attended the events and lectures held by Vencer Autismo, in over 60 cities. In 2020 alone, in the middle of the pandemic, 22.839 people have attended the organization’s various events. Of those, 98% said that their participation has contributed to their comprehension of the disorder. At the same time, the association raises people’s awareness, through communication on its social media, press, radio, and television. The association has over 230,000 likes just on its Facebook's page.
The expansion to Brazil
In 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that autism affected 1 in 160 children in the world. Although there were no specific data on Brazil, taking into account studies made by the WHO and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is estimated that, in Brazil, there are around 2 million people with autism spectrum disorders.
Vencer Autismo aims at reaching at least 25% of the population in each country in which it is active (in Brazil, that's 42 million people), both at their training and promotion of inclusion events and through their social networks, spreading knowledge on autism and influencing the reduction of stigma.
Having conducted market research in Brazil, the promoter decided to charge 30 reais for each lecture, which, given the size of the market, will enable the investment to be recovered quickly. This is Goparity’s first project in which the capital is invested in the form of a loan with subsidized interest, which is justified by the organization’s non-profit nature and its social impact component.

Vencer Autismo is a non-governmental organization (NGO) whose mission is “to reduce the negative stigma around autism until it is understood and accepted by all”.
The NGO was founded in 2010, from Susana Silva and Joe Santos’ dream, that one day, everyone would understand autism for what it really is, without categories, labels, or judgment.
Susana has a bachelor's in Marketing Management and a career in large national companies, where she has acquired wide vast knowledge in management. Married, mother of three (the eldest suffers from ASD), she is the President of Vencer Autismo. Joe is a social entrepreneur who is influenced by four different cultures. After having dedicated 25 years to business and tech, he is now exclusively devoted to projects which have a positive impact on humanity. He founded Vencer Autismo with his wife Susana.
Partners
Vencer Autismo received funds from Google Ad Grants. The Google Grants program supports registered nonprofit organizations that share Google's philosophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts.
Although a non-profit organization, Vencer Autismo is financially sustainable. Even if its lectures, masterclasses, and workshops are free or charge merely a symbolic price, the NGO reaches thousands of people, which allows it to raise enough funds to ensure the sustainability of those actions and invest the remainder to reach new participants. The Facebook birthday fundraisers launched by friends of Vencer Autismo have managed to raise over 100.000€ which were dedicated to bringing free knowledge to all. The donations made by individuals, companies, social investors, and European funds have allowed the creation, testing, and establishment of social impact models which the organizations aim to introduce in new countries and languages. With a history of interventions available to all, which have counted over 55.000 participants (parents, family members, teachers, operational assistants, therapists, psychologists, nurses, firefighters, …) and an extremely positive 95% satisfaction rate, the billing is sufficient to pay for the costs of the organization, which had a surplus over the last six months to reinvest in new impact actions.
