This campaign will be used to fund the installation of solar panels for electricity production in the cheese factory, Queijaria Pacheco, awarded with multiple medals in the National Competition for traditional Portuguese cheeses. The success of their cheeses begins with the selection of raw materials from selected producers in the Alentejo region.
It will be a 40,26 kWp solar photovoltaic installation on the rooftop of a new facility (1600m²), with 2 production lines. Cuba is a small city in Alentejo, the sunniest region in Portugal. Solar power production in this region is very profitable and not as risky as in different regions. "Every hour the sun beams more energy onto Earth than it needs to satisfy global energy needs for an entire year."
This project will generate 73,65 MWh a year. As solar power becomes less and less expensive, the better the business case for producing electricity for self-consumption is.

The PV system will greatly reduce electricity consumption and thus, lower their electricity bill – a monthly reduction of €782,32, whilst the financial cost of the loan is €641,89 per month.

A family owned and operated business, Queijaria Pacheco, was inaugurated in 2017 and is based in Cuba, a small village in Alentejo region. The producer is Francisco Pacheco. Their overall activity focuses on producing different types of cheese - sheep cheese (Queijo de Ovelha), Serpa DOP Cheese or creamy cheese (Requeijão) among others.
The Alentejo region, where the factory is, is known by its environmental quality that explains the quality of its agrifood products and cheese assumes a very important role in this matter, as its production method still has great parallels with artisanal and traditional manufacturing.
They were progressively growing their business by participating in various fairs inside Portugal as well as on the international markets.
In March 2017 in Madrid, they took part in the Salon Gourmet event. Queijo Serpa was represented at the main agri-food fair in Madrid, dedicated to products of a higher range;
In March 2018, they were present at the IFE (The International Food & Drink Event) event in London, UK, where Alentejo sheep cheese was represented within a stand at Portugal Foods;
In April, 2018 they were present at the Alimentaria & Hostelco event in Barcelona, where Serpa cheese was present;
In 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 they were present at the Cheese Fair of Alentejo, three days per year where specialists in a professional area, with representatives of the cheese sector, associations of breeders of indigenous breeds, educational institutions, research, tourism, gastronomy, distribution and consumers meet.
The Queijaria also aims to play a significant roles in the internationalization of the Serpa DOP Cheese, a Protected Designation of Origin for cheese produced with sheep's milk in 4 Lower Alentejomunicipalities (Serpa, Moura, Beja and Mértola), selling to markets such as Spain, France, England, Germany and Switzerland.
Queijaria Pacheco’s overall activity focuses on producing and selling different types of cheese: sheep cheese (Queijo de Ovelha), Serpa DOP Cheese or creamy cheese (Requeijão) among others.
