CO2-zero transportation for a green future.

Description

OCEÂNTIA is a 100% Portuguese company that has developed new models for electric buses with 0% CO2 emissions, high capacity batteries, a modern and attractive design, and high interior comfort, ideal for public transport and school transport in companies and municipalities.

This is the promoter's fourth campaign, after raising 795,000€, to produce the first 0% CO2 emission buses (Oceântia Electric Buses, Oceântia Buses II, III and IV).

This campaign aims to support the project and grant liquidity to produce another 0% CO2 emission bus, ordered a few weeks ago by the Municipality of Coimbra.

See the latest bus sold to a Portuguese municipality in the images below.

The company has already received orders for the supply of electric buses to 10 Portuguese Municipalities, which have secured community funding for their purchase under the POSEUR program - Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources.

Each OCEÂNTIA electric bus that replaces an old combustion engine bus will save up to more than 1.000 tons of CO2 over its lifetime.

This new electric model has attracted the interest of Municipalities and Transportation Operators to be used in public passenger transport services and school transport services.

The Impact

Direct

  • Promotion of innovation towards sustainability in Portugal: the Oceântia electrical fleet is based on innovative processes in Portugal to develop zero-emission buses. The development and construction of the fleet represent technical know-how and jobs created in Portugal.

Indirect

  • Reduction of GHG (greenhouse gases) and CO2 emissions from transportation: while avoiding up to 6.9 tonnes of CO2 per year, each electrical bus from Oceântia is a part of a sustainable transport systems strategy, that supports the reduction of cities’ environmental impact per capita.
  • Creation of jobs: Oceântia plans to hire 11 people to work in the planning, construction, and sales of electric vehicles.

Financial viability

This loan will be repaid using the funds from the already agreed upon sale of the bus to a municipality.

Additionally, it is relevant to mention that there is EU funding available, under the Recovery and Resilience Program, to support Municipalities and Private Operators in the renovation and acquisition of new fleets of electric buses. In Portugal, this figure is above 100 million euros of investment for the acquisition of electric buses in the next 3 years. Similar funding is available in Spain and the rest of Europe. As a consequence, there is increased demand for electric buses and several organizations have shown interest in the purchase of this model.

Among the potential buyers are municipalities, public and private carriers, schools, and tourism services.
