Green hydrogen is essential for the decarbonization strategy of the economy, particularly in the industrial and mobility sectors. Very strong growth is expected for this product and its derivatives in the next ten years. Portugal has an ambitious growth strategy for green hydrogen, as does the European Union, and strong growth in this sector is expected in the coming years.
This campaign aims to finance the first steps towards licensing the first green hydrogen project for an energy community and its preliminary studies.
The promoter's mission is to promote and implement renewable democratic energy solutions, decentralizing its production and generalizing its consumption to reduce the human impact on the environment and address climate change.
This campaign supports the start of an innovative project to implement a reliable and promising technology to harness renewable resources and fight climate change.
The KEME Green H2 campaign aims to fulfill part of this mission by introducing a new renewable energy - green hydrogen - in places where only water and sun (or wind) are needed.
This project includes the implementation in Sines of a green hydrogen production unit using an innovative Portuguese technology patented by the company Fusion Fuel.
In a second phase, the connection of this unit to a Renewable Energy Community in the city of Sines will aim to enable widespread use of this form of renewable energy, incorporating it into the electrical system of the local community mainly as a means of energy storage.
The financing of the licensing (and associated research) for the project will open doors to its implementation in the chosen location and will facilitate raising further private funding to install the green hydrogen production unit.

MWh clean energy
With this operation, Energykeme intends to secure licensing for the project and proceed to the construction and operation phases. The goal is to seek additional complementary funding to add to the POSEUR funds already approved.
The project will produce about 72 tons per year of green hydrogen.

Keme Energy is a startup founded in 2018 in Figueira da Foz to provide energy services (ESCo) for Renewable Energy Communities (RECs). Keme emerged under the recent national legislation that promotes decentralized renewable energy production among civil society to implement the European energy transition guidelines.
REC is quite well implemented in several Northern European countries. However, Portugal is in its early steps, building a specific supply and value chain for this type of business. On one hand, this represents an opportunity for business innovation and products that support the activity of the RECs. On the other hand, there is still the need for research and development regarding the creation of the service and its associated products, including the use of new sources of renewable energy such as green hydrogen.
Keme Energy's team consists of three employees with extensive training and work experience in implementing onshore and offshore renewable energy systems and developing technology to support the maritime and energy sectors. The company also has access to a wide range of consultants in the energy field and partner companies that support the provision of its services and implementation of its products.
In 2021, Keme Energy was recognized by the Portuguese National Innovation Agency as being suitable for the practice of Research and Development activities related to the areas of Energy and Sea Economy.
Miguel has a degree in Computer Science from Faculdade de Ciências de Lisboa and an MBA from the University of Narrava, Spain. Miguel started his career in telecommunications, electronic services, and energy, focusing on R&D. In 2004, he became Director of Innovation and e-Business at Galp Energia, and, two years later, he founded SelfEnergy, a company specialized in sustainability programs, energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart cities. SelfEnergy was recognized as the first Portuguese ESCo to develop integrated energy services and is now an international company. Currently, he is CEO of SelfEnergy UK, the vice-president of ESTA (Energy Services Technology Association) UK, business angel in companies of the sector, and CEO of ENERGY KEME which he joined in 2020.
Teresa has a P.h.D in Environmental Engineering from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She started her career as an ecological modeling researcher. Following this, she worked as a consultant to implement European Water Quality Directives in Portugal and develop Environmental Impact Assessments at national and international levels. In 2008 she joined the team of WavEC, Offshore Energy Center in Lisbon, as coordinator of the Marine Environment and Public Policies department. Teresa was a guest lecturer in the European Master in Renewable Energy (EUREC) at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon for eight years. She is the author of several articles and reports. Teresa joined Keme Energy in September 2020, where she serves as Managing Director.
Master in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Robotics from Instituto Superior Técnico. Nuno was an IT consultant for Grupo Crédito Agrícola. Participated in several international multidisciplinary engineering, medicine, and product design projects. He integrated WavEC Offshore Renewables to develop wave energy converters at scale. He participated in developing and managing projects related to energy optimization, underwater robotics, offshore energy export, offgrid aquaculture energy, and marine monitoring for remote areas. In 2018, Nuno became the technology and monitoring coordinator for WavEC. In 2020 he completed his Commercial Aircraft Pilot course, and in 2021 he joined Keme Energy as a project engineer.
Keme Energy intends to play the role of EGAC (collective self-consumption management entity ) in the new legal context for promoting and developing collective self-consumption and renewable energy communities (RECs).
The EGAC functions as an ESCo (Energy Services Company) that connects financiers and consumers (public entities, industries, and individuals), reducing energy costs and guaranteeing financial return.
KEME's business model is based on establishing contracts for energy supply or energy services, offering a turnkey service related to the implementing and managing (as an ESCo or EGAC) of RECs using available renewable energy sources. The goal is to eventually invest in other sub-services to the community, such as the collective use of electric cars and their charging, public lighting, and charging hydrogen cells for use in transport or local industry.
Keme Energy's innovative service offer includes interconnecting various energy sources and storage such as green hydrogen, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and to increase local, regional, and national energy independence.
