Raise literacy skills in 1000 Iberian public schools.

Description

Class of Wonders is not just building games – they are building the future of the classroom. The company's gamified learning experiences transform how students learn, ensuring every child reaches their full potential.

This loan will directly support the scaling of Magos, a K-8 literacy solution, in the Iberian market in 2025, accelerating the promoter's mission to provide engaging and effective learning solutions for public primary schools that help teachers tackle learning poverty.

Building on Class of Wonder's proven B2School subscription model, this investment will enable:

  • Increasing market penetration: reach a wider audience of public schools in Portugal and Spain through local marketing campaigns
  • Enhance product trial: further adapt the games to ensure frictionless and effective experimentation that decreases Customer Acquisition Costs

In 2025 Class of Wonders will focus on Iberian market penetration to solidify its presence in the region. The goal is to build a foundation for future growth in Europe and LATAM, and ultimately bring the benefits of their game-like learning experiences to more children.

Class of Wonder's predecessor was an association called Epic Student, which funded and settled two projects through Goparity totaling 95.000€ (Classroom Heroes, and Schools of Heroes).

The Impact

Direct

  • Access to quality education, increased reach, and learning outcomes: expanding K-8 literacy solution, Magos, across Portugal and Spain will enable access to high-quality, game-like learning experiences for an additional 110.000 primary school students. Magos fosters essential foundational skills that support lifelong learning and educational success.
  • Support for students from underserved communities: by targeting public schools, Class of Wonders will increase access to quality learning tools for children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. By fostering equitable access to education, the company contributes to reducing learning disparities and promoting equal opportunities for students from all socio-economic segments.
  • Reduction of learning poverty: by leveraging its engaging game-based learning solution, Class of Wonders empowers students to overcome learning barriers, with prior data showing that 84% of students using the solution demonstrate improved literacy and numeracy skills.

Indirect

  • Skilled workforce development: by fostering foundational literacy skills in thousands of children, Class of Wonders contributes to the development of a more skilled and capable future workforce. Early literacy skills are a critical enabler of long-term employability, thereby supporting the broader economy. Students who achieve stronger literacy outcomes are more likely to stay in school, pursue higher education, and access better employment opportunities in the future. This indirect impact has the potential to generate economic growth in the Iberian region over the long term.
  • Improved learning environment and student engagement: the Magos solution has a proven track record of improving the classroom environment. Previous implementations have shown that 84% of teachers reported a more positive and productive learning atmosphere, and 91% of students experienced increased motivation and enthusiasm for learning. This funding will allow further adaptation of the games to different geographies, enhancing the learning experience and further strengthening student engagement.

The project has been successfully implemented

This loan to the promoter Class of Wonders financed an Iberian commercial campaign for pedagogical materials for the 2025/26 school year. All funds were allocated to the dissemination of the Mago program across Iberia.

As a result, the promoter is on track to reach the 1000 schools by the end of this academic year and ultimately 10,000 schools across Iberia - today, their tools are present in 600 public schools across the Iberian Peninsula. Their solutions are already in all regions of Portugal and all 17 regions of Spain.

Class of Wonders is progressing toward the milestone of 110.000 students learning through Mago, a literacy solution that fosters essential foundational skills that support lifelong learning and educational success, with engagement growing steadily. In fact, the majority of participating schools are classified as TEIP (Priority Intervention Education Territories), meaning they focus on reaching the most vulnerable communities first.

Impact so far:

  • 91% of teachers report that the tools improve students’ learning capacity.
  • In participating schools, grade repetition rates dropped by 10%.
  • Previous assessments showed 84% improvement in literacy and numeracy performance, and the promoter aims to confirm these numbers after the full implementation of the tools this academic year.

The promoter’s antecessor association, Epic Student, partnered with organizations to develop a mathematics tool for 1,200 girls up to 14 years old in Nampula, Mozambique, promoting gender equity in STEM education.

In 2024, Class of Wonders won the BPI La Caixa Infância Award and became finalists for the Lisboa Innovation for All Award by Unicorn Factory.
