Solar energy plant for self-consumption at Comuniti.pt’s warehouse.

Impact

  • Contribution to decarbonising the economy: with an estimated annual clean energy production of 164,7 MWh, the solar plant will avoid the emission of 33,4 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent to planting 1520 trees.

  • Cost-reduction for the end-client: this decentralized electric energy production, located near the consumption site, reduces the distribution costs, making this a more attractive and cost-effective option than the national grid. In addition to this, the lower dependence on the national grid reduces the company’s exposure to price fluctuations.

Project Information

The funds raised through this campaign will be used to fund the installation of a solar photovoltaic plant for self-consumption at Comuniti.pt’s warehouse. Comuniti.pt is an innovative online shopping patform, owned by RT&A Consultoria e Gestão. The 225 solar panels will have a total installed power of 90 kWp.

The construction of the solar plant and installation of the panels will be carried out by Luz Verde, a Portuguese company with over ten years of experience providing energy services. LuzVerde is our project promoter for five successfully funded projects: Intermarché Solar I e II, Tintas Solares Felgueiras, Solar Car Wash e Solarize Cuba.

Financial Viability

Green energy that saves you money: capital costs (GoParity loan) translate into a monthly charge of € 1,387.88, in turn, the photovoltaic plant will generate an average monthly saving in the electricity bill of € 1,787.31. This means that with the installation of a photovoltaic system, the promoter will have a profit of around 400 € / month for 6 years. Solar panels have 30 years of production, the maintenance contract and equipment insurance have a monthly cost of € 84 not included in the previous calculations, resulting in a net monthly savings of € 316.

The Business Model

Thanks to a vast experience in the food retail industry in Portugal, and knowledge on the commercial practices of the large industry operators operating in the country, the founders of Comuniti.pt came up with an alternative for consumers – an innovative online supermarket which offers honest and real-time market price update, and an improved experience for customers, providing them with real savings on essentials

Track Record

RT&A, the company which manages Comuniti.pt, was founded in 2018 and is based in Aveiro. The founders of the company, Justina Adrego and Ravit Turjeman, have aimed to develop an online platform which would truly cater for the final-consumer's real needs.

Considering that the comercial margins applied, including on essential products, the founders wanted to create an online supermarket which would offer honest prices, with real-time prices of competitors in the market, and an improved experience for the consumer, allowing for real savings on essential goods.

The company reached a revenue of 435,183.00 € and 1,106,075.34 € in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
