12. Responsible Consumption and Production

SDG 12. Responsible Consumption and Production

Slow fashion in Lithuania. High-quality, sustainability and ethics.

Impact

Sustainable fabrics production: The Fashion House uses stock excess (fabric and clothes) and fabrics that were not used from previous collections to produce new clothes, avoiding waste and the negative impact of producing new fabrics. On top of this, it carefully selects high-quality fabric produced in Europe that follows the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification.

Promotion of responsible consumption patterns: focusing on slow fashion, Oskaras Povilenas produces quality and long-lasting clothing with limited editions (no more than 20 per pattern).

Promotion of local producers: Oskaras is working in direct contact with local seamstresses and producers, making the supply chain as short as possible.

Project Information

Oskaras Povilenas Fashion House is a direct reflection of the designer’s interpretation of human beauty and diversity with high standards regarding quality, sustainability, ethics, and individuality.

The Lithuanian Fashion House is on a mission to build a profitable and sustainable business by empowering artisans and elevating them to world-renown status and bringing inspiration and innovation to every Modern Human. To be synonymous with elegance and creativity, to mix tradition and innovation.

The goal of this campaign is to finance the brand’s expansion to new and bigger markets. The funds will be mostly used in marketing, showrooms and salaries, and new fabrics.

Financial Viability

The company had over 50.000€ in sales in 2019, a number that more than doubled in 2020. With the investment in marketing and expansion to other markets, which will be co-financed by GoParity, Citadele Bank, and the promoter's own resources, this number is expected to grow in 2021.

About SC Oskaras Povilenas

Oskaras Povilenas is a slow-fashion brand founded in December 2018, by Oskaras Povilenas himself.

All the clothing is designed and produced in Vilnius, Lithuania with the finest craftsmanship and materials.

Oskaras Povilenas Fashion House is a direct reflection of the designer’s interpretation of human beauty and diversity with high standards regarding quality, sustainability, ethics, and individuality. Oskaras creates every piece based on a sharp image of a woman’s character, including posture and the way she moves.

In his own words, “The beauty of humans, in general, is diversity. And I am trying to create beauty. All the pieces I have ever created have been based on a sharp image of a woman’s character, including posture and the way she moves. The only aspects left blank are body shape, hair, and eye color; those are of no importance. I think of how to reflect the obvious and the more subtle characteristics of this woman in my design. The former, along with posture and movement, influences mainly the decision for cut and fabric, while the latter ones have a huge impact on the details, which then directly reflect the sophistication of a woman. This is how I create an array of unique women; this is how I create beauty!”

The Business Model

Established in Vilnius, Lithuania, the promoter produces women's clothing only.

The brand’s most relevant markets, besides the Lithuanian, are France and Germany, having showrooms in Paris and Berlin. On top of this, it accepts personal orders for custom-made pieces, and it sells its clothes online.

Oskaras is also considering expanding to New York and Milan.

Track Record

FFAfter studying Costume Design at Vilnius Academy of Arts, Oskaras founded a Fashion House with his name in December 2018, which started selling to the public in 2019 and currently employs four people.

According to Oskaras, the pandemic gave us the needed time to step back and reflect where we stand, whilst being economically highly challenging. The fashion industry was situated on a treadmill of quantity, growth, and excellence that placed a high pressure on creativity and is its ultimate enemy. It was noticeable that quality suffered. In order to be creative, it is essential to take the time to think and reflect. This was simply not possible thinking of the 4+ collections that had to be designed and produced every year. While the production slowed down, the sustainability movement accelerated this year. Before the pandemic, the industry did put very little aspect to the wide range of meaning this word implies. Yet it is the future.”

In 2020, Oskaras received the Silver Medal for the IDA Design Awards 2020’ –Prêt-à-Porter.

In July same year, the brand was featured in Schon magazine and, later that year, in October, on Kaltblut.
