Impact

  • Reduced dependence on carbon-based fuels, avoiding the emission of CO2: with an estimated annual production of over 17 MWh, the photovoltaic systems will avoid the emission of 3,45 tons of CO2, the equivalent to planting 157 trees.

  • Cost reduction for the end client: decentralized electricity production, near the consumption location, reduces the distribution costs making the option for renewable energy more cost-competitive than the national grid. Also, the decreased dependence on the national grid, makes the company less vulnerable to price fluctuations.

Project Information

The aim of this campaign is to finance four photovoltaic plants for self-consumption: two rural accommodations – Herdade da Tarouca in Crato, district of Portalegre and Alojamento do Landal, the center of Portugal -, in a private home in Caldas da Rainha, and in a construction company in Cascais (Engeasa).

The power plants will have a total power of 12kWp installed which will produce over 17MWh of clean energy per year.

The installation and operation of the solar panels will be carried out by Pleno Energia, a Portuguese energy commercialization and energy services company which will also be the project’s promoter and owner of the solar panels during the first few years.

Currently, Pleno Energia’s customers are mostly companies. The promoter intends to contribute to the decentralization of energy, by installing a solar plant in each home. To respond to the initial investment difficulties of private clients, the company will partner with GoParity who will act as a funding provider. This will be the first of several campaigns with the same objective.

Financial Viability

During the first years following the installation, the panels shall be owned by Pleno Energia, which shall receive a rent indexed to the energy production of each plant, paid by the homeowners, small businesses (mostly rural accommodation), or non-profit organizations, where the panels will be installed. After this period, the plants will be bought by the end user, who will achieve significant energy savings in face of the current consumption and, consequently, reduce their electricity costs.

Founded in 2017 (officially in 2019 as Pleno Energia) by Paulo Ribeiro and Eurico Sobral, Pleno Energia is a small company operating in the renewable energy sector, headquartered in Carnaxide, district of Lisbon.

The company is part of the Joyn Group, a technological company with over 400 employees and 20 years of experience in consulting in the banking, insurance, and energy industries, among others.

In the construction sector, the company will possess construction licenses for public and private works, as well as a projects office which will be responsible for the licensing, architecture projects, and specialties.

In 2017, Pleno Energia was founded as an energy marketer and, since 2019, it is also dedicated itself to providing other energy services, from energy efficiency (LED lighting) to the installation and maintenance of solar panels for self-consumption, and energy coating projects.

The company intends to expand its business with the goal of “bringing solar energy to all”, growing its offer to small facilities, targeting individuals, rural tourism, and social organizations (mostly private social solidarity institutions).

Founded in 2017 by Eurico Sobral, Pleno Energia currently has 5 direct employees and has an international network of employees in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil, with around 90 operations to support the energy regeneration of companies.

It also has its own technical team specialized in the installation of solar photovoltaic plants, and an engineering team that develops and implements solar and similar energy solutions for its customers.

Currently, its client portfolio is composed mainly of companies, but also counts a number of private individuals, with projects located from North to South of Portugal, and an aggregated installed capacity of circa 900 kW. The company is also expanding its operations to Spain.

Between 2019 and 2020, Pleno Energia has installed the solar panels of the following projects financed by GoParity: Landal I, Landal II, Bright Future Ramada, Solar Nursing Home, and Solar Metalworks Leiria. Nevertheless, this is the first time the company will play the role of project promotor, as well as that of the installer.

In 2021, the promotor resorted to GoParity as a financing partner for its first project in line with the ESCO (Energy Service Company) model. These contracts’ financial model is based on an initial investment which is conducted by Pleno Energia itself.

Its remuneration consists of the positive balance between the estimated energy savings and the effective measured savings. There is therefore a guarantee of performance for the contracting authority which ensures a decrease in its energy costs when comparing with normal circumstances. In other words, the contract’s budgetary impact is always positive, since the energy service company (ESE) takes on the risk of having to pay any costs exceeding the costs established contractually.
