Expanding solar energy self consumption across Spain

Description

Zona Renovable is a Spanish company that develops and installs solar energy systems for homes, businesses, and shared buildings. Founded in 2021 by a team with long experience in the photovoltaic sector, the company now operates across Spain and has completed more than 150 installations in regions such as Madrid, Castilla y León, and Andalucía.

The company manages the full process of each project, from system design and engineering to equipment procurement, installation, inspection, and final grid connection. Zona Renovable also works with institutional partners, including Solar360 - a joint venture between Repsol and Telefónica España focused on expanding residential and small-scale solar solutions in the country.

The funds raised through this campaign will finance the development of five new rooftop solar projects with a combined capacity of 492.66 kW. These installations will be located in Madrid (three projects), Valladolid (one), and Almería (one). All projects form part of a long-term energy program led by Repsol Comercializadora de Electricidad y Gas, S.L.U., which will own the systems once they are completed. Solar360 is responsible for coordinating the program and has selected Zona Renovable to carry out the full installation process.

The projects include the following stages: engineering design, permitting, equipment procurement, construction, inspection, certification, legalization, meter installation, and final energization. Each installation is expected to be completed within approximately 180 days and must be finalized before December 2026.

These projects will contribute to expanding Spain’s distributed solar capacity and supporting the country’s transition toward cleaner, more resilient energy systems.

The Impact

Direct

Contribution to the decarbonisation of Spain, avoiding CO2 emissions: With a total production of clean energy of over 682.46 MWh per year, the solar power plant will avoid the emission of about 68.25 tonnes of CO2 per year. This is equivalent to the CO2 absorption of 3.102 trees.

Cost reduction for the end customer: decentralized energy production through renewable sources, close to the place of consumption, helps to avoid distribution costs, this being the most competitive option. In addition, the company's lower dependence on the national grid makes it less vulnerable to price fluctuations and tax charges.

Indirect

Promoting sustainable business: the projects being developed by Zona Renovable are an example of a transition to solar energy that is affordable and accessible, from installation to maintenance, for any business, and in this case serves as a benchmark to similar industries, an important step towards sustainability for businesses in Spain

Financial viability

The loan will be repaid through the revenues generated by Zona Renovable’s ongoing installation activity. The company has been selected by Solar360 to carry out the full installation process of five new solar projects that form part of a long-term energy program led by Repsol Comercializadora de Electricidad y Gas, S.L.U.

The execution of the five new systems is expected to reinforce the company’s activity and generate the revenues needed to support the repayment to Goparity investors.
