The funds raised through this campaign will be used to fund the installation of a solar photovoltaic plant for self-consumption in a Portuguese traditional bakery. The 281 solar panels will have an estimated annual production of 146,4MWh a year and a total power of 80 kWp.

The construction of the solar plant and installation of the panels will be carried out by Luz Verde, a Portuguese company with over ten years of experience providing energy services. LuzVerde is our project promoter for five successfully funded projects: Intermarché Solar I e II, Tintas Solares Felgueiras, Solar Car Wash e Solarize Cuba.

What is the impact?

Direct:

  • Reduced dependence on carbon-based fuels: with an estimated annual production of 146,4 MWh, the central will avoid the emission of 37,8 tons of CO2 a year, the equivalent to planting 1.718 trees.

Indirect:

  • Cost-reduction for the end-client: this decentralized electric energy production, located near the consumption site, reduces the distribution costs, making the renewable energy option more attractive and cost-competitive than the national grid. In addition to this, the lower dependence on the national grid reduces the company’s exposure to price fluctuations.

About the Promoter

About
Sociedade Panificadora Central de Lousada Lda

Sociedade Panificadora Central de Lousada, Lda. (or Padaria Central de Lousada, as it is known) was founded over 50 years ago. With a thorough renovation of the customer service space in 2017, it is a meeting point in the village of Lousada, in Porto, operating in the same place since 1968.

Its establishment resulted from the merger of three family bakeries distributed throughout the village: Eduardo Mendes Xavier, on the street Visconde de Alentém, where the Society is currently based, the bakery owned by Narciso Ribeiro da Mota, in the same street, and the bakery owned by António Teixeira, in the street Dr. Afonso Quintela.  This merger was the solution to a set of legal requirements, from the functional and sanitary point of view, published in Diário da República in the 1960s.  Given the constraints of adaptation and works that each of the owners had to carry out in their respective establishments, the Society was formed with the commitment to build a single factory unit technically equipped for the bakery service. This was officialized by Diário do Governo in 1965 and together they built the current new building that was ready in 1968.

The company currently employs 25 people (13 men and 12 women).
