After the two wildfires that occurred in 2017, which destroyed more than 80% of the forest area of Belver (around 540ha), Terras de Guidintesta- Rural Development Society has initiated a partnership with the Forestry Produces Association of Belver Parish to reforest an area, under its management (around 600ha) with a more resilient and sustainable forest in economic and environmental terms.
This funding will serve as a first tranche to initiate the early jobs regarding the final goal which is the reforestation of 600ha.
This area corresponds to more than 1600 properties of rustic buildings of more than 130 small owners who unite to promote the joint management of their properties and therefore overcome the obstacles of smallholding.
With an intervention area of 600ha, located in the parish of Belver in the municipality of Gavião, the project is laying the foundations for multifunctionality, sustainability and biodiversity with a strong connection with the local community. It is promoting not only the reforestation of indigenous species (such as cork tree, arbutus and pine tree), but also a multifunctional way of management where the use of resources is sustainable, promoting the development of economic activity and social impact in the area.

Terras de Guidintesta – Society for Rural Development, managed by Carlos Machado, a Portuguese forestry engineer, was founded in 2012 to aggregate the wills of a group of small landowners in Belver, who decided to deliver the management of their land, about 600 acres, to the Society. Their main activity is the production and selling of agriculture and cattle raising, beekeeping, hunting, as well as other services related to the transformation of farming and forest and tourist activities in a rural area and nature tourism. The project is a partnership with Associação de Produtores Florestais da Freguesia de Belver (APFFB). APFFB has the role to supervise the relationship between the small owners and the project promoter while simultaneously being the management entity of the Zona de Intervenção Florestal da Freguesia de Belver (ZIF).
