DISPOWER E.S.P.  is a Colombian utility company dedicated to operating and maintaining energy solutions in remote rural areas of Colombia.

This funding campaign aims to strengthen and expand DISPOWER's operation in remote rural areas that do not have access to energy (non-interconnected areas), ensuring that more communities can benefit from sustainable energy solutions. The funds raised will be directed to three main areas:

  1. Strengthening technical service - Improve the customer service team to provide better support, and optimise customer strategies. Increase operational capacity by hiring more technical staff, and offering rapid problem resolution in rural areas.
  2. Community training - Expand educational programmes on the efficient use of energy and basic maintenance of electrical equipment, empowering users to optimise resources and guarantee electricity services. Training plans will also be implemented to promote community ownership of the sustainability model.
  3. Growth of operational infrastructure - Technological improvements will be implemented in operational processes to increase efficiency and prepare to serve a greater number of users assigned by the State, ensuring the continuity and quality of service in a context of sustained expansion.

The investment will allow DISPOWER to serve more people and optimise the quality of service, fostering operational sustainability and reducing costs through economies of scale. In terms of expansion, DISPOWER is expected to strengthen its presence in new rural areas, consolidating its position in the renewable energy sector in Colombia. In addition, the social impact is expected to be profound, improving the quality of life of vulnerable communities, empowering them, and ensuring equitable access to energy. The goal is for this model to become scalable lay the foundations for a sustainable energy transition on a national scale.

Qual é o impacto?

Improving energy access in Colombia's Non-Interconnected Zones (ZNI): Dispower's services are transforming access to renewable energy in 16 of Colombia's Non-Interconnected Zones (ZNI), rural and remote areas without connection to the national grid. Thanks to its operating model, in alliance with Colombian government subsidies, Dispower facilitates continuous access to electricity for families, reducing the energy gap in the country and promoting equal opportunities in vulnerable regions.

Improving quality of life through electricity reliability: Dispower's operating model was designed to guarantee a safe, reliable and sustainable supply of electricity in isolated areas. Many families in the ZNIs lacked electricity or relied on costly and inefficient methods such as diesel generators, candles or lanterns. Dispower's decentralized photovoltaic plants supply power to specific households or schools, adapting to the particular needs of each family or school community. This solution ensures reliable electricity day and night, allowing the use of household and school appliances and adequate lighting that significantly improves the quality of life and functioning of the educational facilities.

Impact on communities and people benefited: Dispower serves 16 rural and remote communities, reaching 8,502 households and schools with an average of four members per family, impacting more than 34,000 people, including school children. Of these communities, 11 are made up mainly of indigenous groups, which represent 80% of the beneficiary households, or nearly 20,000 people. The indigenous communities served include groups such as the Sikuani, Wayuu, Embera Katío, Murui, Kichwa, Coreguaje, Siona, Huitoto, Cubeo, Tukano, among others.
Dispower also provides training for the users around efficient and responsible use of electricity and maintenance of equipment.

This loan supports Dispower's operations, enabling services for approximately 1,360 households and benefiting 5,589 people in the ZNIs by providing improved access to energy and enhancing their quality of life through greater electricity reliability.

Promotion of clean energy and cost reduction: The use of electricity generated by solar plants is contributing significantly to the transition to clean energy, improving air quality and reducing CO2 emissions in the ZNI. By replacing diesel with solar energy subsidized by the Colombian government, households enjoy more affordable costs. With an annual production of more than 10,000 MWh of clean energy, Dispower's installations avoid the emission of more than 5,000 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to the carbon dioxide absorption of more than 70,000 trees in the same period.
