Quinta do Alfeijoal has installed Portugal's first super-intensive organic olive grove, also known as a hedge grove.

After raising €20,000 through the Quinta do Alfeijoal I campaign to finance agricultural operations, this new campaign aims to install a photovoltaic power plant on the promoter’s land to decarbonize their activities.

Quinta do Alfeijoal intends to continue developing and optimizing its organic production methods, creating a resilient and circular ecosystem. Strategically, their commercial focus is on exporting Portuguese organic and conventional agricultural products to major distribution chains in Nordic countries, complementing their olive oil offerings with wines and cheeses. The olive grove was inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and Food in April 2022, and has been highlighted as an example of organic production combining sustainability techniques, cultural practices, and energy autonomy, thereby achieving greater profitability than conventional agriculture.

Direct:

Contribution to Portugal's decarbonization by avoiding CO2 emissions: With a total production of over 49 MWh of clean energy per year, the solar installation will prevent the emission of approximately 4.2 tons of CO2 annually. This is equivalent to the CO2 absorption of 194 trees.
Cost reduction for the end customer: Decentralized energy production through renewable sources, close to the point of consumption, helps to avoid distribution costs, making it the most competitive option. Additionally, the company's reduced dependence on the national grid makes it less vulnerable to price fluctuations and tax charges.

Promotion of sustainable businesses: The project developed for Quinta do Alfeijoal exemplifies the applicability of solar energy to any business, serving as a reference for similar industries. This is an important step toward sustainability for businesses in Portugal.

A Positivegravity é a empresa agrícola gestora dos 64 hectares da Quinta do Alfeijoal, integralmente certificada em MPB (Modo de Produção Biológico), incluindo 38 hectares de olival de regadio, 4 hectares de olival de sequeiro, 16 hectares de floresta e ainda uma pequena vinha e nogueiral.

A Quinta do Alfeijoal remonta ao século XVIII, tendo sido das maiores explorações da região, com olival e lagar, vinha e adega, figueiral e destilaria. Depois vinte anos ao abandono, parte por êxodo rural da família, um elemento da 5ª geração voltou ao campo. Aqui instalou o primeiro olival biológico de regadio super intensivo em Portugal.
