Ba Ba Ba Global Services is a Portuguese company based in Castelo Branco. This is the promoter's second campaign to co-finance the construction of a 6.000 m2 light steel frame manufacturing plant in the industrial park of Portalegre, in Alentejo, Portugal, an area of the country with a very high unemployment rate.
The project will have a total investment of € 4.8m, accounting for construction works (€ 1m), production equipment (€ 2.8m), auxiliary equipment (€ 990,000), and other costs (€ 61,000). The construction works are set to start in February 2021. Since the last campaign, the promoter has delivered the licensing to the City Hall of Portalegre and acquired a profiling machine costing 700.000€, which will be pledged.
The Light Steel Framing is a building construction system in which steel is the main structural material. The steel structure is coated both externally and internally with high-quality industrialized elements which give the final product comfort, durability, and safety, with lower environmental impact than traditional construction materials, such as brick or cement.
Financial Viability
The project has a total investment value of € 4.8m, of which € 969,000 will be financed using the promoter’s own capital; € 3.455m through the SI Inovação scheme, an incentive program promoting business innovation, part of the nation-wide Portugal 2020 program, a loan which is repayable in 8 years, interest-free and has a 2 year grace period. The remaining € 422,000 will be financed through GoParity campaigns.
The incentive provided by the SI Inovação scheme was approved in December 2019 and the release of the funds is conditional on the possession and licensing of the land where the plant will be constructed.
The land, valued at € 1m, has already been acquired by Ba Ba Ba Global Services, Lda. and the licensing has been delivered to the City Hall of Portalegre in December 2020.
Direct
Higher energy efficiency: the light steel construction structures bear thicker insulation layers compared to traditional construction materials (such as brick and cement), which leads to more heat-efficient buildings, meaning lower energy costs in heating and cooling. Moreover, the production of these structures requires 70% less energy than traditional materials.
Contribution to the decarbonization of the economy: the new manufacturing unit will be autonomous at an energy level. The installed solar panels shall have a power of 400kW, generating 632MWh of clean energy per year, and avoiding the emission of 163 tonnes of CO2 per year. At the same time, the production of light steel is responsible for lower CO2 emissions in comparison to traditional materials.
Promotion of a circular economy: light steel can be recycled through fusion to create other steel products. The material is thus almost entirely recyclable, which results in much less waste ultimately ending in landfills when compared to other construction materials. It is therefore one of the construction materials with greater environmental awareness.
Reduced impact on the construction site: the light steel structure can be raised at the site with minimum impact since it reduces the total amount of land that needs to be excavated. In addition, in light steel construction, each piece is designed and created at the factory with a specific purpose in mind within the building under construction it destined to, which ultimately reduces the production of waste.
Job creation: twelve new positions will be created by 2023 in Portalegre, on top of the seven new roles created so far.
Indirect
The project will promote the growth of the local economy of Portalegre, a district with a high unemployment rate and where the local job market is saturated, through the creation of new job positions, as well as the affluence of collaborators to local establishments for consumption and the increased demand for materials to support the plant operations.

Ba Ba Ba Global Services Lda. is a Portuguese company based in Castelo Branco, which was established in March 2019 by Guida Marques, who is also the company’s CEO.
Guida Marques is an Electrotechnical engineer as well as an agronomist and has wide experience in developing key projects in the construction industry (from design to implementation).
Guida is a partner at a number of companies in different sectors, including at the US congener 888 Global Services LLC which develops projects in Africa mainly.
Ba Ba Ba is currently dedicated to the construction of buildings (residential and non-residential). Soon, it will start the construction of a manufacturing plant in Portalegre dedicated to the production of light steel frames (LSF), which will be sold under the ARQ Frame brand, registered and held in full by Ba Ba Ba.
Ba Ba Ba is an engineering and construction company engaged in the development of Light Steel Frames (LSF).
The steel used is obtained through the profiling of low-thickness steel sheets, using a cold moulding process. The shapes of the profiles are obtained by means of milling or profiling and are then screwed or carved according to the project to be carried out. The metal profiles used have a low weight hence the light steel designation. The term light also demonstrates the flexibility of the material, since it allows for any type of outer or inner finishing. Moreover, the building itself has a reduced weight, not only because the structure is light, but also because LSF is used for buildings with a reduced height of up to 3 floors.
The company operates in the following branches:
Rehabilitation: in city constructions, the LSF structures present advantages for construction yards since they don’t require the assembly of large cranes, which ultimately facilitates the flow of trucks charged with materials (such as sands, cements, Etc.);
New Constructions: since concrete is used only on building foundations, beyond the positive impact on reducing CO2 emissions and increasing thermal efficiency, the construction is also faster;
Industry: more competitive because the construction is carried in kits to the yards, and a storage facility of 1,000 m2 takes approximately one week to be built. The construction process is fully automated and modular.
In all, Ba Ba Ba has the following competitive advantages: reduction in labour time, reduction in labour required, and consequently lower cost.
