Oyster farming improves water quality by acting as a filter (a single oyster filters on average 55 liters of water a day), reduces the need for extractive fishing, it doesn’t interfere with the natural stocks. Oyster farming has a positive impact in the marine environment, by capturing around 4 tons of CO2.
After the success from their first angariation, Oysterworld looks to invest again in new production equipment but also to increase their production capacity to 360 tons per year. The amount to be funded is 2,10M€ will be mostly financed by a outright grant programme, MAR2020, that supports projects that promote the sea economy in Portugal.
